Medical Aid Plans

Medshield offers a choice of 10 different plan options and covers approximately 165 000 lives. Premiums for a single member range from R1 485 to R6 747 and MediValue is the most popular option. The Compact options have compulsory use of networks and care co-ordination, nominating a Family Practitioner and the Family Practitioner-to-Specialist referral process, resulting in cheaper contributions. Premium Plus

Premium Plus is suited for families and individuals requiring extensive medical cover. It offers unlimited hospital cover at a hospital of choice, with in-hospital specialist bills paid at 200%. Co-payments are applied to a comprehensive list of procedures and a short list of in-hospital exclusions applies. Day to day claims are paid from savings. Thereafter, a self payment gap applies and then certain claims are paid from the above threshold benefit. Preventative care and maternity benefits are also available.

MediBonus

MediBonus is suited for individuals requiring extensive medical cover. It offers unlimited hospital cover at a hospital of choice, with in-hospital specialist bills paid at 200%. Co-payments are applied to a comprehensive list of procedures and a short list of in-hospital exclusions applies. Day to day claims are paid from a defined benefit pool with additional benefits available for basic & specialised dentistry, specialised radiology as well as optometry. Maternity and preventative care benefits are also available.

MediPlus is suitable for young families and individuals. It offers unlimited hospital cover at a network of hospitals, with in-hospital specialist bills paid at 100%. Co-payments are applied to a comprehensive list of procedures and a short list of in-hospital exclusions applies. Day to day claims are paid from a defined benefit pool with additional benefits available for basic & specialised dentistry, specialised radiology, specialist visits as well as optometry. Maternity and preventative care benefits are also available.

MediSaver is suitable for young healthy families and individuals. It offers unlimited hospital cover at a network of hospitals, with in-hospital specialist bills paid at 100%. Co-payments are applied to a comprehensive list of hospital procedures and a short list of in-hospital exclusions apply. Day to day claims are paid from savings. Specialised radiology, maternity and preventative care benefits are also available.

MediCore is a hospital plan which is best suited to young and healthy individuals. It offers unlimited hospital cover at a network of hospitals, with in-hospital specialist bills paid at 200%. Co-payments are applied to a comprehensive list of hospital procedures and a short list of in-hospital exclusions applies. Joint replacements are only covered in the case of acute injury (Prescribed Minimum Benefits only). This hospital plan also provides some GP visits, preventative care and maternity benefits.

MediPhilia is best suited to young and healthy individuals. Hospital cover is limited to R1 000 000 per family at a network of hospitals with in-hospital specialist bills paid at 100%. Co-payments are applied to a comprehensive list of hospital procedures and a comprehensive list of in-hospital exclusions apply. All day to day cover is subject to a network of service providers and treatments are subject to provider network protocols.

MediValue Prime & Compact

MediValue is suitable for young healthy families and individuals. It offers unlimited hospital cover at a network of hospitals, with in-hospital specialist bills paid at 100%. Co-payments are applied to a comprehensive list of hospital procedures and a short list of in-hospital exclusions applies. Joint replacements are only covered in the case of acute injury (Prescribed Minimum Benefits only). Day to day claims are paid from defined day to day limits with a separate benefit for optometry, basic dentistry, specialised radiology and specialist visits.
